Fine Tuning

As seems to have been the case with this project one good lead often takes us onto the next, our tuning adviser has introduced us to Steve at Allens Performance Ltd. who has kindly offered to help with our carburetion. We will be needing to work through a range of jetting in the carb when we get onto the rolling road, Steve is going to help make it happen. Details for Allens can be found on the Sponsors page.

SCTA Bonneville Speed Week

After a difficult start we have now found someone at the SCTA (sponsors of speed week) that will answer our questions regarding the rules. We are trying to ensure that we don't get to Bonneville and encounter any technical difficulties with the classes in which we are hoping to enter. Many thanks to Matt Shuss for his guidance.

Inspirational

Watched 'The Worlds Fastest Indian' again this weekend, what a film, what a man. Burt Munro the engineers engineer achieved something that had it been planned on paper would have been deemed totally impossible. If anyone has any questions over why we might be putting so much effort into this project, just watch the film, and no it isn't because I want to sleep with an old lady with access to welding equipment.

Modified Frame

Steve and I went to visit Mal today, always good to see him and he has kindly found the time to move the modified production frame along. Rear sub frame and fuel tank lowered, headstock adapted for new front end and much interesting discussion over the next step. Picture below, it will take a very trained eye to distinguish this honed racing machine from an old bike frame but trust me it is!
Material is on order for the special construction frame, time for Steve and Mal to crack out the backs of some old fag packets and start sketching...

Saturday Round Up

Dropped off my Bantam rear hub with Sid of 'Sids Wheels' this morning, he will be lacing me a nice new rim onto the hub. Very good to meet him, but I look forward to a better chat when I go to pick the wheel up, as I was a little the worse for wear today. I like to think I was out last night talking to potential sponsors, my better half will insist I was out getting drunk.
Steve has been over with Mal sizing up his frame build around a growing collection of parts for the 'special'. The picture below is firing their imaginations, they just need to create a skeleton to hang it all on.

The imaginatively named 'engine 2'

Another treat lined up for Steve tomorrow as I hand over the next engine for his ministrations, it looks better on the outside than 'engine 1', but as is said, never judge a book by its cover. Even though the first engine had stood in an orchard for several years before we purchased it, the internals revealed that prior to it being abandoned someone had obviously cared well for the insides. Here's hoping we get lucky a second time, over to Steve.....

Flower of Scotland

This week we have been talking to Derek Palmer of 'Speed Scotland' a team that are attempting to break a Bonneville record, and in doing so become members of the 300mph chapter of the 200mph club. This is more towards the bigger budget end of the Bonneville spectrum than us and we wish them the best of luck with this years attempt. Derek is a true gent, he took the time out to talk us through some of the smaller details of the event and issues we would have to deal with, He was most reassuring, and extremely generous with his offers of support with logistics and resource at the 'salt'.

Shiny Happy Engine

Well here is an engine that has seen some love, all clean and shiny with new bearings throughout. Now ready for the important part, the tuning, we have been lucky enough to be put in touch with a man of great knowledge and experience that will be holding our hands through that process. More on him and the tuning later.
