Team Profiles

Karl Meredith:

Hailing originally from the Midlands I was moved to, and grew up in Mid Wales, going first to Trefeglwys primary school and then Llanidloes high school. On leaving school I joined the Royal Navy as an artificer apprentice and served for 8 years primarily maintaining weapons systems on frigates. On leaving the service I spent some years in London, working as an engineer and extensively travelling for the BBC World Service. In 2001 I returned to live in Mid-Wales where I now reside with my partner Natalie and three sons; Owen, Fred and Victor. We live in and are restoring a redundant Victorian Church in Welshpool, which has itself become a lifetimes project. Christ Church Welshpool.
I have ridden motorbikes since I was 10 years old and my passion for all things motorcycle continues today, much to the chagrin of my long suffering better half.
The trip to Bonneville has very quickly germinated from a fledgling idea into a project in full flight and has certainly put a fire under my biking enthusiasm.

Nick Spalding:

Brought up in the Ghettos of Guilsfield, attended Welshpool High School followed by apprenticeship as Toolmaker/fitter, now fulfilling my dream career at an Aluminium foundry.
I now live in Kerry in a converted barn with my wife and two daughters.
Riding bikes since first 'sports' moped at 16, currently own old CX500 and SZR660.
Bonneville is my mid-life crisis trip - what does it all mean???

 Steve Roberts:

Born in Newtown, married to Nicola  with two children Chris and Emma.
Apprentice trained engineer (Price & Orphin) with almost 25 years working in the Aerospace industry. Still in Engineering but now it is Automotive die casting.
Had my first motorbike in my early teens (Bridgestone 175) which I still own. Have had well over 20 motorcycles over the years and now ride my Honda Sp1 or Suzuki Katana 1100 on the few sunny days we have each year.
I have a real love of all things with an engine, having restored several classic cars and rebuilt many motorcycles. I know we have a lot of hard but potentially rewarding work ahead.
Rapidly approaching 50, hence the desire to achieve a landmark engineering feat.

  1. Not sure if you have heard of George Todd. In my early life he was a legend turning BSA Bantams into flying machines.

He is on Facebook and I understand still has some spare castings, drawings etc available for the last racer he built as the GTS Special.

Would any of you be interested in having the parts from him as he is I believe prepared to provide all the drawings and expertise for it to be completed.

He has extensive experience by the way as he was being schooled to take over from Bert Perrigo before it collapsed and had lots of good connections with Queens University Belfast - Professor Blair.

    Best wishes,
